In short
Only monitor endpoints that you own or have permission to monitor, keep your checks within your plan limits and the target's rate limits, and do not use the service to attack, scrape or overload anything. If you break these rules we may rate-limit, pause your monitors or close your account.
1. Purpose and scope
This Acceptable Use Policy (the "AUP") describes how Stanbyte Monitor, operated by Stanbyte B.V., may and may not be used. It forms part of our Terms of Service and applies to every account, including trial accounts. Because our checker servers make requests to the endpoints you configure, the way you use the Service affects third parties and our reputation. The rules below exist to protect those third parties, other customers and the Service itself.
2. Monitor only what you are authorised to monitor
You may add a monitor only for endpoints that you own, operate, or have explicit permission from the owner to monitor. This includes:
- your own websites, APIs and servers;
- services run by your employer or client, where you have been asked to monitor them;
- third-party services that publicly invite external monitoring, such as published health-check endpoints, provided you follow their published limits.
You may not add monitors for websites or servers of competitors, public institutions, or any other party that has not authorised you, even if the endpoint is publicly reachable. Repeated automated requests to a server you do not control may be unlawful in the jurisdiction of that server and will be treated by us as abuse.
If we receive a complaint from the owner of an endpoint, we may pause the monitor immediately and ask you to demonstrate authorisation.
3. Respect the target's limits
Even where you are authorised, you must configure monitors responsibly:
- choose a check interval appropriate to the target; a 1-minute interval on a small shared host or a rate-limited API may be excessive;
- respect rate limits and robots.txt directives published by the target, and any terms of service of third-party APIs you monitor;
- do not point many monitors at the same endpoint to multiply request volume;
- do not use keyword monitors to extract or archive page content; they exist to confirm a page is serving correctly, not to scrape it.
Our checker IP ranges are listed in the dashboard so that you can allow-list them on your firewalls and distinguish our checks from other traffic in your logs. Check requests identify themselves with a Stanbyte Monitor user agent.
4. Prohibited uses
You must not use the Service, directly or indirectly, to:
- carry out or support denial-of-service attacks, load testing, stress testing or any activity intended or likely to degrade the availability of a target;
- probe, scan or test the vulnerability of systems you are not authorised to test, or attempt to bypass authentication or access controls of any system;
- monitor, link to or publish on a status page any content that is illegal in the Netherlands or in your country, including child sexual abuse material, terrorist content, material that infringes intellectual property rights, or content that is defamatory or incites violence or hatred;
- monitor infrastructure used for malware distribution, phishing, command-and-control, spam, or the sale of illegal goods or services;
- circumvent or attempt to circumvent plan limits, for example by creating multiple accounts, sharing an account between unrelated organisations, manipulating check intervals, or exploiting bugs to obtain features you have not paid for;
- resell, rent, sublicense or white-label the Service, or offer monitoring to third parties as a commercial service, without our prior written agreement;
- scrape, crawl, mirror or systematically extract data from the Service, its dashboard, its API or public status pages, other than your own data through the export functions we provide;
- reverse engineer, decompile or attempt to discover the source code of the Service, except where mandatory law permits it;
- interfere with the operation of the Service, for example by sending malformed data, flooding webhook endpoints that point back at us, or attempting to access other customers' data;
- use the Service to send unsolicited messages, or configure alert channels (e-mail addresses, Telegram chats, webhooks) that belong to people who have not agreed to receive alerts from you;
- impersonate another person or organisation on a status page, or use a status page slug or branding that is misleading;
- use the Service in a manner that violates export control, sanctions or other applicable laws.
5. Status pages
Public status pages at https://stanbyte.app/s/{slug} are hosted by us but the content is yours. You are responsible for everything you publish there. Status pages must relate to services you operate and must not be used as general-purpose hosting for unrelated text, links or advertisements. We may remove a status page that breaches this AUP or that attracts abuse complaints.
6. Account security
You must not share your login credentials with anyone outside your organisation, must use a strong password, and must not attempt to access accounts other than your own. If you discover a security vulnerability in the Service, please report it to legal@stanbyte.app rather than exploiting it, and give us a reasonable time to fix it before disclosing it publicly.
7. Fair use of shared infrastructure
Checks are run from infrastructure shared by all customers. Plan limits on monitor count and interval are the primary fair-use control. In addition, we may apply technical limits to protect the platform, for example a maximum response body size for keyword checks, a maximum timeout per check, or a maximum number of alerts per hour per channel. These limits are documented in the dashboard where they apply.
8. How we respond to abuse
If we believe, acting reasonably, that your use breaches this AUP, we may take any of the following steps, with or without prior notice depending on the severity and urgency:
- rate-limit or reduce the check frequency of some or all of your monitors;
- pause individual monitors or your whole account;
- remove or unpublish a status page;
- disable an alert channel that is generating complaints;
- require you to provide evidence of authorisation for a monitored endpoint;
- suspend or terminate your account under the Terms of Service, without refund;
- report unlawful activity to the relevant authorities and cooperate with lawful requests for information.
Where the breach is minor and unintentional, we will normally contact you first and give you a chance to fix it. Where the breach causes harm to third parties, creates legal exposure for us, or involves clearly illegal content, we will act immediately.
9. Reporting abuse
If you believe someone is using Stanbyte Monitor to abuse an endpoint you control, or that a status page hosted on our platform contains unlawful content, please e-mail legal@stanbyte.app with the affected URL or hostname, the timestamps and the source IP addresses you observed. We investigate every report and respond within 2 business days.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this AUP as the Service and the threat landscape change. Material changes are announced by e-mail at least 14 days before they take effect, as described in the Terms of Service. The date at the top of this page shows the current version.
