In short
Stanbyte Monitor sets a handful of strictly necessary cookies to keep you signed in, protect your account and remember your cookie choice. Google Analytics 4 is loaded only if you accept analytics cookies in the consent banner; declining keeps the site fully usable, and you can change your choice at any time through the Cookie settings link in the footer. We use no advertising cookies.
1. What this policy covers
This Cookie Policy explains which cookies and similar technologies Stanbyte B.V. uses on https://stanbyte.app, including the marketing site, the dashboard and public status pages at stanbyte.app/s/{slug}. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data more generally.
2. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser. Cookies allow the site to recognise your browser on later requests, which is how you stay signed in while you move between pages. "Local storage" is a related browser feature that stores key-value pairs for a site; unlike cookies, local storage data is never sent to our servers automatically.
Under the Dutch Telecommunications Act (Telecommunicatiewet) and the EU ePrivacy Directive, cookies that are strictly necessary to provide a service you have requested can be set without consent. Cookies used for analytics, advertising or tracking require your prior consent. We use strictly necessary cookies by default and analytics cookies only with your consent. We use no advertising cookies.
3. Your consent and how to change it
When you first visit stanbyte.app you see a consent banner with two equal choices: accept analytics cookies or decline them. Nothing other than strictly necessary cookies is set until you choose. If you decline, the site works exactly the same; no feature is withheld. Your choice is stored in the sb_consent cookie for 12 months so that we do not ask you again on every visit.
You can change or withdraw your choice at any time by clicking the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page. Withdrawing consent stops Google Analytics from loading on later page views and we delete the related cookies from your browser where the browser allows it. It does not affect data already collected while consent was active; see the Privacy Policy for your rights regarding that data.
4. Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are required for the site and the dashboard to work. They are set without consent because the service you request cannot be provided without them.
| Name | Purpose | Set when | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| stanbyte_monitor_session | Identifies your session on our servers so that you stay signed in and your form state and flash messages work. Contains only a random identifier; the session data itself is stored on our servers. | On your first visit to any page | 2 hours of inactivity, or until you close the browser |
| XSRF-TOKEN | Protects against cross-site request forgery. Our forms and the dashboard's JavaScript send this token back with every request that changes data, and we reject requests where it does not match. | On your first visit to any page | 2 hours, refreshed with each request |
| remember_web_* | Keeps you signed in across browser sessions when you tick "Remember me" on the login form. The name ends in a random suffix. Contains a random token that is matched against a hashed value on our server. | Only when you choose "Remember me" at login | Up to 1 year, or until you log out |
| sb_consent | Records whether you accepted or declined analytics cookies, so that we respect your choice on later visits and do not show the banner again. | When you make a choice in the consent banner | 12 months |
| status_theme | Remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme on a public status page, so the page does not flash the wrong theme on reload. | Only when you toggle the theme on a status page | 1 year |
All of these cookies are first-party, meaning they are set by stanbyte.app itself and are not readable by other websites. Session, CSRF and remember-me cookies are marked Secure (sent only over HTTPS), HttpOnly where the browser does not need to read them, and SameSite=Lax to limit cross-site use.
5. Analytics cookies (optional)
If you accept analytics cookies, we load Google Analytics 4, a service provided by Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland ("Google"). We use it to understand which pages are visited, how visitors arrive at the site and where they drop off, so that we can improve the product and the documentation. The measurement ID we use is stored in our configuration and is specific to stanbyte.app.
| Name | Provider | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
| _ga | Distinguishes one browser from another by assigning a random client identifier, so that repeat visits can be counted as the same visitor | 2 years | |
| _ga_* | Keeps the state of the current session for the specific Google Analytics property, including session count and timestamp. The name ends in the property identifier. | 2 years |
We have configured Google Analytics as follows:
- the tracking script is not loaded, and no analytics cookie is set, until you accept in the banner;
- IP addresses are anonymised (truncated) before they are stored, as is standard in Google Analytics 4;
- Google Signals, advertising features, remarketing and data sharing with other Google products are switched off;
- we do not send user identifiers, e-mail addresses, monitor URLs or any other content from your account to Google Analytics;
- data retention in Google Analytics is set to the shortest available period.
Google may transfer analytics data to servers in the United States. Google LLC is certified under the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, and we have in addition entered into the Standard Contractual Clauses with Google through its data processing terms. More information about how Google uses data from sites that use its services is available at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
You can opt out at any time through the Cookie settings link in the footer. You can also install the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, which prevents Google Analytics from collecting data on any site.
6. Local storage
The dashboard and status pages use browser local storage for a small number of interface preferences. These values never leave your browser and are not used to identify or track you.
| Key | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|
| stanbyte.theme | Your light or dark mode preference in the dashboard | Until you clear your browser storage |
| stanbyte.sidebar | Whether the navigation sidebar is collapsed or expanded | Until you clear your browser storage |
| stanbyte.monitor_view | Your chosen list or grid layout and sort order on the monitors page | Until you clear your browser storage |
| stanbyte.dismissed_notices | Which in-app notices (for example, a maintenance announcement) you have already dismissed | Until you clear your browser storage |
7. What we do not use
- No advertising cookies. We do not run advertising on the Service and do not allow advertising networks to set cookies through it.
- No social media pixels or embedded trackers.
- No cross-site tracking or fingerprinting.
- No analytics without consent. If you decline or never answer the banner, Google Analytics is never loaded and we rely only on our own aggregated server logs, which use no cookies.
8. Third-party services
Our site is served through Cloudflare, which provides DNS, CDN and protection against attacks. Cloudflare may set a cookie named __cf_bm or similar on some requests for bot management; this cookie is strictly necessary for security, lasts up to 30 minutes and does not track you across sites. The checkout page for buying a licence is hosted by our payment processor, which sets its own strictly necessary cookies for fraud prevention on its own domain, governed by its own cookie policy. Apart from Cloudflare and, with your consent, Google Analytics, no third party sets cookies on stanbyte.app pages.
9. Managing cookies in your browser
In addition to the consent banner, you can control cookies through your browser settings. All modern browsers let you view the cookies a site has set, delete them, or block cookies from specific sites. Instructions are available in the help pages of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge.
Please note that if you block or delete the stanbyte_monitor_session or XSRF-TOKEN cookies you will not be able to log in to the dashboard, because we cannot keep you signed in or protect your account without them. Deleting the sb_consent cookie means the banner will appear again on your next visit. Blocking the status_theme cookie or clearing local storage simply resets your preferences to the defaults.
10. Changes to this policy
We will update this policy if the cookies we set change, for example when we add a feature that needs a new preference cookie or change our analytics provider. The date at the top of the page shows the current version. If a change would require new or broader consent, we will ask for it through the banner before the change takes effect.
